What Cloudzstone is — and what it isn't
Cloudzstone is a small editorial photography studio based in Ottawa, Ontario. We photograph weddings, personal portraits, commercial brand work, and events — primarily across Ottawa and the National Capital Region, with regular travel across Ontario for wedding commissions. The studio was founded in 2018 and has since completed more than 200 projects, ranging from intimate 60-minute portrait sessions to full-day wedding coverages involving two photographers and a production coordinator. We work within what we call the violet-creative palette: a tone system that brings depth and a slightly cinematic quality to images without making them feel artificially stylised. It started as an aesthetic preference and became a recognisable visual signature across every project we deliver. Our clients tend to find us because they've looked at other photographers and felt like the images — while technically fine — could have been taken by anyone. That's the gap we occupy. We're not the largest studio in Ottawa, and that's deliberate. Keeping the team small means we can stay selective about the work we take on and give each client a consistent level of attention from first enquiry to final gallery delivery.
How we actually work
Our process is straightforward: you get in touch, we have a short call or exchange a few emails, we send you a written scope document with the deliverables and fee spelled out clearly, and then we book the date. On the day of the shoot, we arrive early enough to read the light and the space before the first frame. For weddings and events, we operate with a documentary instinct — we're watching for the frame rather than arranging it. For portraits and commercial work, we collaborate more directly: you'll bring a brief or a mood board, and we'll bring the technical and editorial skill to execute it. What we don't do: we don't offer graphic design, video production, or post-shoot retouching beyond the colour grading included in every package. We also don't guarantee outcomes that depend on factors outside our control — weather, venue lighting, or how people feel on camera are things we work with, not things we promise to eliminate. Results in photography are always a collaboration between the photographer's eye and the conditions on the day. We're honest about that from the start.
I needed headshots for a new consultancy I was launching and had exactly one free Saturday morning. Cloudzstone turned around 35 edited images by Tuesday — all of them genuinely usable, three of them outstanding. The whole process from first email to delivery took eight days. I've since recommended them to two colleagues.
